The illegally used Ballermann terrace collapsed.
A tragedy occurred last Thursday at a popular Mallorca beach, Ballermann, where the terrace of a local malfunctioned. The incident led to the death of four individuals, with two of them being German tourists.
Recent revelations show that the owners of the collapsed terrace at Medusa Beach Club did not hold an official permit for their second-story balcony area. Following the accident, four people lost their lives on the island during their vacation, while many others endured injuries.
Initial findings indicate that utilizing the first-floor establishment was unlawful. Palma Mayor Jaime Martínez shared this information with journalists, suggesting that the police and prosecutor will receive the findings. The town hall may even be co-defendants in a trial if there is one.
It's been disclosed that the excessive load of the unapproved and classified as inaccessible terrace contributed to the collapse. About 21 people were on the first floor during the incident, including 12 Dutch guests who reportedly moved tables onto the terrace.
A legal process was in motion against the local for building work that took place despite being declined. Martínez shared they couldn't possibly monitor all 5,000 restaurants and bars in the city, but they are vowing to uphold strict inspections during the summer season, specifically at the beach. The town hall has ten inspectors available for these checks.
Fourteen individuals, largely Dutch, were taken to hospitals following the accident. Three German citizens were among them. One person remains at the hospital, but has been moved to a regular ward. "One person is still in the hospital... but they are already on the normal ward."
