Trailer for "House of the Dragon" - The game of intrigue enters its second round

"No war is as hated by the gods as a war against their own blood. And none is bloodier than a war among dragons." Sky Deutschland has released the first trailer for the second season of the highly acclaimed "Game of Thrones" spin-off "House of the Dragon". The 75-second clip leaves no doubt that the new episodes will be as epochal as they are brutal for all the characters involved.

This is where season one left us (warning, spoilers!)

As a reminder, season one ended with King Viserys(Paddy Considine, 50) breathing his last after decades of illness. However, he was also the only person to die who opposed a war within his own House Targaryen by any means necessary. When one of Princess Rhaenyra's (Emma D'Arcy, 31) sons was also killed by Aemond Targaryen's (Ewan Mitchell, 26) dragon shortly afterwards, the war with her stepmother and former friend Alicent Hohenturm (Olivia Cooke, 29) was sealed.

It is at this dark moment in the history of Westeros and its surroundings that the second season of "House of the Dragon" begins. "A war is imminent - with many deaths," Alicent is certain in the clip. "And the victor will take the throne at the end". The trailer shows how the two warring parties prepare for the inevitable - but also seem to struggle with the course of events. There is also no shortage of the titular dragons, which cause fear and terror in the armies of the respective opposing sides.

Showrunner heats up the anticipation

Showrunner Ryan Condal got fans in the mood for this back in March of this year. At a screening event in Los Angeles, he promised that the second season of "House of the Dragon" would see a major increase in the number of dragons. "You will meet five new dragons," said Condal according to "The Hollywood Reporter".

The second season of the"Game of Thrones" spin-off will air in early summer 2024. This was confirmed by HBO boss Casey Bloys at an HBO event in New York at the beginning of November, as reported by "Deadline". It will therefore consist of eight episodes.
