- The forthcoming summer blockbuster titled '24' has been declared.
The title of this year's summer smash in Germany is set to be unveiled today, Thursday. The experts from GfK Entertainment in Baden-Baden, who compile the Official German Charts, will reveal the artist and song.
Unlike the past, no standout summer hit has surfaced on the music scene yet. Contrastingly, two years ago, "Layla" by DJ Robin & Schürze was declared the winner in late July.
What about Shirin David's chances?
Typically, the summer hit is a track by an underdog artist or one who's yet to make it big in Germany.
Therefore, the chart-topper "Bauch Beine Po" by Shirin David might not be declared. However, his rule has been broken before, like in 2021 with Ed Sheeran's "Bad Habits".
Famous summer jams include "Macarena" (1996), "Dragostea din tei" (2004), "I Kissed A Girl" by Katy Perry (2008), "Wake Me Up" by Avicii (2013), and "Despacito" by Luis Fonsi feat. Daddy Yankee (2017).
Some potential summer chart-toppers this year based on their performance so far include "I Like The Way You Kiss Me" by Artemas. Artemas, a British music producer, achieved global fame with this electronic track due to its popularity on TikTok.
Another contender is "Move" by Adam Port, Stryv, Keinemusik, Orso & Malachiii. Berlin-based DJ Adam Port has gained international recognition through his collective Keinemusik. His electronic track "Move" offers a summery sunset vibe, reminiscent of Ibiza or the Burning Man festival.
Also in the mix for the 2024 summer anthem is "Pedro" by Jaxomy, Agatino Romero & Raffaella Carrà. This danceable number is a reinterpretation of the Italo-disco classic "Pedro" by the late Italian singer Raffaella Carrà, who passed away in 2021 at the age of 78. "Pedro" is one of Carrà's most famous hits, alongside "A far l’amore comincia tu" (also known as "Liebelei" in German).
Despite the absence of a clear summer hit this year, other underdog artists like Artemas and Berlin-based DJ Adam Port are gaining traction with their summery tracks. Their songs, such as "I Like The Way You Kiss Me" and "Move," could potentially challenge the status quo and become the other standout summer jams of 2022.
