Threads now also in Germany - The first celebrities are already there
After Threads was originally launched in more than 100 countries in the summer, it is now Europe's turn. German internet users can now register on Meta's short message platform. The first German and European celebrities have also already posted on the new platform in this country.
Easy entry for Instagram users
To use Threads, interested parties can use their existing Instagram account to log in and customize their profile for the platform, explains Mark Zuckerberg's (39) Meta in a press release. However, it is currently also possible to view other users' posts without their own profile. However, if you want to interact with other users, you need an account.
The industry association Bitkom welcomes the launch of the platform in Germany. Social media is "an essential part of the online world as we know it today: 89% of German internet users aged 16 and over use social networks - that corresponds to around 54 million people", CEO Dr. Bernhard Rohleder is quoted as saying in a press release. Such platforms play "an important role in our pluralistic society. More diversity and competition through new offerings strengthen freedom of opinion - and the opportunity for citizens to inform themselves and exchange ideas." Threads is another alternative to Elon Musk's (52) X, formerly Twitter, alongside Mastodon and Bluesky.
Donatella Versace starts with a play on words
The first German and European celebrity users include soccer star Toni Kroos (33) and Italian fashion designer Donatella Versace (68). While Kroos posted a Christmas childhood picture and asked whether everyone was ready for the festive season, Versace responded with a clever play on words: it may be her first day on the platform, but she is also the "Queen of Threads". The designer is alluding to her work, as "threads" is the plural of yarn or thread, among other things.
Meanwhile, ProSieben has given the presenter duo Joko Winterscheidt (44) and Klaas Heufer-Umlauf (40) a joint "Joko & Klaas" account. A corresponding profile on Instagram features all kinds of adventures between the two relating to their shows. To start with, there was a simple "GuMo", i.e. "Good morning". Winterscheidt got in touch with a "It's Britney, bxtch", among other things.
