The far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party has been excluded from a right-wing group in the European Parliament.

After a series of controversies, the extremist Identity and Democracy (ID) party in the European Parliament has removed all AfD members. This information was shared by multiple members of the group. The most recent incident involved AfD's lead candidate Maximilian Krah making light of SS matters.

The ID Group in the European Parliament has expelled all AfD representatives. Id Group leader Marco Zanni mentioned this in Brussels while speaking to some members.

The German AfD representative in charge of the delegation, Christine Anderson, initially filed a complaint about the procedure and demanded to be heard. She had the help of six other AfD members in the ID group. They wanted Krah to be the only one expelled while simultaneously proposing a motion. Only Joachim Kuhs declined to support the motion.

The Italian party Lega stated that the ID Group no longer wishes to be associated with the events surrounding Maximilian Krah, the AfD's candidate for the European elections, who is the lead candidate. The chairman of the ID parliamentary group in Brussels is Marco Zanni of Italy.

A series of incidents involving Maximilian Krah and the German delegation damaged the "cohesion and reputation" of the group, according to a draft resolution seen by the AFP news agency. The French right-wing populists of the Rassemblement National (National Rally, RN) terminated their relationship with the AfD on Monday.

The AfD delegation attempted to prevent this decision and wanted only their lead candidate Maximilian Krah to be excluded. They believed his behavior did not justify the expulsion of all AfD MPs.

The party head in Berlin had previously prohibited Krah from attending any public events on behalf of the party. He also announced his resignation from the federal executive committee. Krah spoke to the Italian newspaper "La Repubblica" over the weekend about how not every SS person was a criminal.

The AfD party members were expelled from the ID Group in the EU Parliament, due to the controversial actions of their lead candidate, Maximilian Krah. Despite the AfD delegation's efforts to only exclude Krah, other parties, such as the Italian Lega, decided to dissociate from the German party in relation to the European elections.
