The EU condemns Russia's allegedly "provocative moves" near Estonia's border.
Josep Borrell, the European Union's Foreign Affairs Commissioner, recently accused Russia of performing "provocative actions" on the border with Estonia. Borrell described the removal of border markers in the Narva River between the two nations as "unacceptable" during a press conference in Brussels on Friday. France's Foreign Minister Stéphane Séjourné also shared similar thoughts.
According to Borrell, this border skirmish is just one example of a broader pattern of "provocative behavior and hybrid tactics" by Russia, including those along its maritime and land boundaries in the Baltic Sea region. The Estonian government announced earlier this week that Russian border guards had removed the buoys from the Narva River at dawn.
Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas agreed, saying that it seemed to be part of a "broader pattern" by Moscow to cause "fear and terror" through border maneuvers. Since Russia's military assault against Ukraine in February 2022, tensions between Moscow and the region have escalated.
Séjourné noted that Russia has increased its provocations, and he promised "complete solidarity" with the Estonian government in the face of these unacceptable aggressive actions.

The EU has expressed concern over the removal of border buoys in the Narva River, an action viewed as part of Russia's provocative behavior towards Estonia's border. The removal of these border buoys was referred to as "unacceptable" by EU Foreign Affairs Commissioner Josep Borrell during a press conference. The EU strongly condemns these actions, as they fall under Russia's allegedly provocative moves near the EU border.
