The Elisabeth riddle is solved

In Cologne-Ehrenfeld, an oversized poster has been raising questions for days. "Elisabeth, we said FOREVER", it reads - and the people of the cathedral city have been puzzling over what this heartbreaking message could possibly be about. Now the secret is out.

The search for "Elisabeth" and her supposed admirer in Cologne can be stopped. Less than a week after a huge poster with a cryptic message suddenly appeared on the façade of a house on Ehrenfeldgürtel in the Ehrenfeld district, the mystery has now been solved. And - contrary to what some people probably assumed - it's not a Rome and Juliet romance that's behind it. At least not one that would actually take place somewhere in the cathedral city.

"Elisabeth, we said FOREVER" was written in bold red letters on the banner, garnished with a picture of a broken heart. And where does Elisabeth's trail ultimately lead? To Austria, of course.

So another gigantic poster was quietly and secretly put up below the lettering at the weekend. " You can see whether it's forever on RTL+", it says. And: "Sisi. Stream the third season now." There is also a photo of actor Jannik Schümann and actress Dominique Devenport in historical garb and an amorous pose - the two play Emperor Franz Josef and his wife, the legendary Elisabeth aka Sisi, in the series.

Successful guerrilla marketing

RTL may have pulled off a successful coup in terms of guerrilla marketing. After all, people in Cologne have been puzzling over what the heartbreaking message to Elisabeth might be all about since the first lettering appeared on the apartment building in Ehrenfeld last Monday. In addition, other mysterious messages appeared on posters on lampposts and electricity boxes in the surrounding area. They contained sentences such as "Elisabeth, come back. We still had so much to do" or "Elisabeth, you are the one for me. Please come back".

It wasn't just local media such as Cologne's Express newspaper that picked up on the issue. The Instagram page "koelnistkool" also invited its users to puzzle over the background to the supposed love story. Some may be a little disappointed by the current resolution of the case, while others may have actually become aware of the series - which is absolutely worth watching - as a result. The third season of "Sisi" premiered on RTL+ on December 1. Three episodes can also be seen as free TV premieres on RTL on December 27 and 28 at 20:15.
