Current Climate Conditions - The DWD issues a warning for potential flooding in the south and southeastern regions.

Intense downpour, prolonged rainfall, and flooding: The German Meteorological Service projects severe weather situations, predominantly in the southern and southeastern regions of the nation. "The impending storm will reach its peak over the coming weekend and coincidentally, it's precisely eleven years since catastrophic flooding in particular parts of Bavaria," revealed meteorologist Marcel Schmid in Offenbach today. However, he continued, "We're still significantly below the magnitude of that era."

As per the meteorological service (DWD), around 70 to 120 liters per square meter might collect in the area stretching from Lake Constance to the Thuringian Forest-Eastern Saxony by Sunday. "Inundation and flooding are inevitable in this case," clarified Schmid. Concerning Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland where past comprehensive flooding transpired, considerably lower rainfall figures are anticipated.

The DWD also states anticipated disparities in the forecast. Concrete warnings will materialize on Thursday night or at the very least by Friday morning. In 2013, the so-called century flood in Deggendorf and other sections of Bavaria caused damage estimated at around 1.3 billion euros. Accordingly, the flood defenses have since been considerably intensified.

Detailed forecast:

On Thursday, the weather will showcase a mix of clouds, and a recurrence of showers and thunderstorms, occasionally heavy rain. Coastal regions may experience extended sunny intervals. Anticipated temperatures will range from 16 to 20 degrees Celsius, reaching as high as 22 degrees Celsius in the east. The wind will be light to moderate, emerging from various directions.

Friday, signifies the start of the potentially perilous weather scenario in the south and southeast, with rainfall turning incessant. Other sections of the country anticipate episodes of showers and thunderstorms, possibly heavy rain. Sunniest zones are foreseen in the northwest. Maximum temperatures are likely to hover between 18 and 24 degrees Celsius, with persistent rain temperatures projected to reach 11 to 16 degrees.

Saturday, the DWD predicts a steady downpour from Lake Constance to Lausitz. Across the other parts of the country, sporadic showers or brief thunderstorms are expected. The west and northwest regions are forecasted to bask in prolonged sunshine.
