Wax figure of deceased Sineád O'Connor - The Dublin Museum is under criticism
On July 25th, the National Wax Museum Plus in Irish Dublin unveiled a wax figure for one of the country's most famous daughters, Sinéad O'Connor (1966-2023). However, the figure will be removed again. The appearance and placement during the unveiling drew criticism.
After the Museum presented the figure on its Instagram account, numerous negative comments followed. Sinéad O'Connor, with her typical buzzcut but with inappropriate facial features, was hardly recognizable, according to the criticism. The placement of the figure next to "Star Wars" figures of the Museum also caused confusion.
Sinéad O'Connor's brother shocked
Sinéad O'Connor's brother John O'Connor also expressed himself negatively to the Irish broadcasting company RTÉ. He was "shocked" when he saw the wax figure of his sister online. "She didn't look like her at all and I found it disgusting", O'Connor explained.
The Museum had chosen itself as a frame for the unveiling of Sinéad O'Connor's first death day. The "Nothing Compares 2 U" interpreter had surprisingly passed away on July 26, 2023, at the age of 56.
Museum announces new, better figure
The Museum in Dublin reacted promptly to the criticism. In a statement, which was approximately published on Instagram, the management admitted that "the current representation does not meet our high standards or the expectations of Sinéad O'Connor's loyal fans".
"Sinéad O'Connor's influence on Ireland and the global music community is immeasurable, and our goal was always to honor her in the most appropriate and respectful way", the Museum further emphasized. Therefore, work on a new wax figure will begin immediately, which will better reflect her "true spirit and iconic image".
Sinead O'Connor's brother, John O'Connor, was disappointed by the Wax figure of deceased Sinéad O'Connor on Instagram, finding it neither accurate nor respectful. Despite the initial unveiling in Dublin's National Wax Museum Plus, the Museum acknowledged the criticism and announced plans to create a new wax figure, aiming to better capture Sinead O'Connor's "true spirit and iconic image."
