Monarchs Frederik X and Queen Mary are scheduled to visit Germany in the upcoming month, marking their first trip there since their ascension to the throne.

The Danish royal family is contemplating a trip to Germany.

After the new monarch, King Frederik X, and Queen Mary, took over the throne in Denmark, their official visit to Germany has been scheduled. The royal duo will commence their trip with a two-day stay in Berlin and then proceed to Schleswig-Holstein for a visit. Denmark and Germany share strong ties due to their collaborations in trade, green transition, and security policy, as per the royal household's announcement of the visit.

In the German capital, the 56-year-old King Frederik and his 4-year-younger Queen Mary will be greeted on October 21 by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife Elke Büdenbender. The visit includes a tour of the Reichstag building and a celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Nordic embassy complex at the Tiergarten. Most likely, the Swedish and Norwegian royal families' representatives, Finland's President Alexander Stubb, Iceland's new President Halla Tómasdóttir, as well as Steinmeier and Büdenbender themselves, are expected to be present. The day will end with an evening meal hosted by Steinmeier and Büdenbender at Schloss Bellevue.

Visit to the Danish minority in Schleswig-Holstein

On the second day, the royal couple will travel to Schleswig-Holstein, home to the Danish minority. They are likely to be seen in Kiel and Flensburg and will also attend the opening of an energy conference.

Following the turn of events this year, King Frederik X ascended the Danish throne, replacing his 84-year-old mother, Queen Margrethe II, who stepped down after nearly 52 years in power. Queen Margrethe II's last state visit to Germany was in 2021, first accompanied by Frederik in Berlin as the Crown Prince, and later alone in Munich.

During their visit to Schleswig-Holstein, The Commission, responsible for the Danish minority's affairs, is expected to meet with King Frederik X and Queen Mary. The commission will undoubtedly discuss the challenges and opportunities of preserving Danish culture and language in the region.

Furthermore, The Commission will likely provide insights into their collaborative efforts with the German government to uphold and strengthen the rights of the Danish minority in Schleswig-Holstein.
