The Compensation Received by Tom Cruise for his Olympic-Inspired Stunt Might Shock You
As per Casey Wasserman, the head of the LA2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Tom Cruise was fully on board with carrying out his leap from Stade du France to receive the official Olympic flag from Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and Olympian Simone Biles.
The "Top Gun" star then zipped (no joke intended) around Paris on his motorbike, hopping onto a plane close to the Eiffel Tower prior to parachuting into an area near the Hollywood sign in Los Angeles for a pre-filmed part.
"We discovered we were creating a 15-minute live TV show, so I enlisted who I believe is the world's top individual for this task," Wasserman mentioned during the recent CNBC X Boardroom panel, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
Wasserman stated that Cruise was adamant about executing all the stunts himself.
"We're like, there's no chance we'll pull this off. We'll have four hours of filming time," Wasserman said. "We'll do the thing with LA and the Hollywood sign, he'll pass off the object and that's it. Maybe we can snag the rest and the rest will simply be handled by a stunt double. About five minutes into the presentation [Tom Cruise] announces 'I'm in. But I'm only doing it if I get to do everything.' "
Cruise didn't just participate, but Wasserman revealed that the actor did so for no charge.
"He completed filming 'Mission Impossible' at 6 p.m. in London, immediately jumped on a plane. He landed in LA at 4 a.m. and filmed the scene where he boards a military plane," Wasserman recalled. "In LA, he executed two jumps from the thing. He wasn't satisfied with the first one, so he did a second jump. Then he helicoptered from Palmdale to the Hollywood sign, filmed from 1 until 5, helicoptered to Burbank Airport and flew back to London."
Mission completed.
The entertainment industry was thrilled at the prospect of Tom Cruise's daring stunts for the Olympic ceremony.During the CNBC X Boardroom panel, Wasserman highlighted the importance of Cruise's involvement in the entertainment aspect of the event.
