The chief of Ukrainian military perceives a challenging situation in Kharkiv.
The scenario is challenging - even the Ukrainian army's main man acknowledges that. Syrskyi gripes about "intense defensive struggles" in the Kharkiv area, whilst Ukraine ferries masses of people to safety. Meanwhile, Russia is touting the seizure of additional settlements.
Russian soldiers have infiltrated Kharkiv and, as per Moscow's Ministry of Defense, seized control of several Ukrainian villages over the weekend. Ukrainian army leader Olexandr Syrskyi voiced concerns regarding the situation in the region in northeastern Ukraine. Nevertheless, his country's troops were working hard to maintain a secure stand.
In Syrskyi's words: "Units from our defensive forces are enduring fierce defensive clashes." The military chief expressed on Telegram, "The efforts made by the Russian invaders to shatter our defenses have been thwarted." Also, he mentioned, "The situation is tricky, but the Ukrainian military is giving it their all to uphold the defensive lines and positions and cause damage to the oppressors."
Synegubov, the regional governor, claimed that more than 4,000 people were relocated to safety from areas near the border. "4073 people were safely evacuated," he updated social media platforms. He also explained that a 63-year-old gent was pierced by gunfire in the settlement of Hlyboke and a 38-year-old fellow sustained injuries in Vovchansk.
Russia: Four more villages taken
As of now, Russia's Ministry of Defense declaimed that four more Ukrainian villages had been subdued. Hatyshche, Krasne, Morokhovets, and Oliyinykove have now fallen under Russian domination. Russia had earlier proclaimed the acquirement of five villages on Saturday. Ukraine, by contrast, stated that the incursions had been thwarted and they were battling for control over the settlements.
Russian soldiers instigated a new advance in the Kharkiv district on Friday. Although they penetrated the region about a month ago during the onslaught in February 2022, they were subsequently forced to withdraw by Ukrainian soldiers.
Trouble on the horizons
The commencement of the Russian onslaught in Kharkiv a few days past now endangers establishing a new battlefront in northeastern Ukraine. The city with the same name, Kharkiv, is Ukraine's second-largest metropolitan area after Kiev and is around 400 kilometers away from capital city Kiev as the crow flies.
Currently, Ukraine is trying to shield itself against Russia - largely since military aid from the USA has been delayed for months. Whilst Ukraine's soldiers are running low on ammunition, the Russian military has a marked upper hand in terms of troop numbers and munitions. The administration in Kiev has trumpeted that several months of holdups by the US Congress in ratifying a sweeping aid deal have been detrimental on the battlefield. They're confident that sizeable portions of the newly endorsed aid will soon arrive to help sustain the defensive efforts.
