- The canine companion of his advanced age won't undergo euthanasia.
The concern over the well-being of eleven-year-old Belgian Malinois shepherd dog Loubo temporarily troubled supporters of film icon Alain Delon (1935-2024), who tragically passed away on August 18th at his residence in Douchy, Loiret.
Discussing the Issue
In a 2018 interview with "Paris Match," the renowned French actor disclosed his desire for his canine companion to join him in death:
"If he precedes me, I'd request the vet to put us both down. He'd administer the euthanasia so he could pass away in my arms. That's preferable to knowing he'd die in agony at my grave," Delon admitted at the time.
Comfort from the Brigitte Bardot Foundation
The Brigitte Bardot Foundation swiftly alleviated public anxiety: "No need to worry about Loubo! Many of you have reached out concerning Loubo's future [...]. He has his home and his family," confirmed Alain Delon's loved ones, who will look after him. Loubo will not be put down, as per the foundation headed by former French actress Brigitte Bardot (89).
The friendship between Alain Delon and Brigitte Bardot, both animal lovers, remained strong across time and distance. In a magazine interview on August 20th, B.B., often referred to by her initials, honored her lifelong friend: "I am shattered, heartbroken by the demise of someone I've always considered a friend and even more so as a confidant, even as my other half."
Preparations for the Ceremony on Saturday in Douchy
While Alain Delon's eldest son, actor Anthony Delon (59), has shared an Instagram photo of the dog lying in front of his family's large estate in Douchy, without comment. According to "Paris Match," Anthony Delon is overseeing his father's funeral arrangements from this location, which will take place on August 24th.
As predetermined by Alain Delon, the funeral will occur on Saturday at 5 pm in the chapel he constructed on his estate in Douchy. Monsignor Di Falco will officiate the service in the presence of around 40 individuals. Following the ceremony, Alain Delon will be laid to rest in the location he had chosen within the chapel, beside his cherished pooches.
The artist, born on November 8, 1935, in Sceaux, in the northern French region of Île-de-France, was honored numerous times. "He departed peacefully in his Douchy home surrounded by his three children and his family," reported "Paris Match," among others.
Animal welfare workers were called into action after concerns arose about the welfare of Loubo, following Alain Delon's admission that he would request euthanasia for himself and Loubo if the dog passed away before him. However, the Brigitte Bardot Foundation assured the public that Loubo would not be put down and would continue to live with his family.
