That's why she no longer works in front of the camera

"Harry Potter" made her a star: but although Emma Watson is a world-famous actress, she has deliberately kept a low profile.

Emma Watson - That's why she no longer works in front of the camera

Her role in the "Harry Potter" films made her an absolute mega star. However, Emma Watson (33) seems to have been missing from Hollywood for a few years now. Her last film "Little Women" was released in 2019 - since then, her acting career has gone quiet. Apparently a very conscious decision, as Watson has now told British Vogue in an interview.

Instead, the 33-year-old now prefers to devote herself to activities that happen behind the camera rather than in front of it in Hollywood. According to the Vogue article, she has already tried her hand at directing a Prada commercial and is enrolled on a creative writing course.

Retiring was "a very big decision"

When asked if it was hard to turn down big Hollywood roles, Watson replies: "Being in a profession where everything moves very quickly, the decision to take time away from these things was a very big decision," she admits. "The decision to step back, write and study and move behind the camera felt scary because I'd never done that before. I'd always been in front of the camera. I had always been the actress."

But the difficult decision was the right one: "I'm so glad I did it because I feel like I can use my own voice and have a creative freedom and sovereignty that I didn't have before - more autonomy." She says she's glad she allowed "things to be chaotic for a minute and I really allowed myself to not know what was coming next, because the knowledge I gained I wouldn't trade for anything."

Back from the break

In the spring of 2023, Emma Watson posted back to her followers on Instagram after a long social media hiatus. "I left my life behind - I learned to surf (badly), I went horseback riding (that worked better), I did a lot of therapy," she wrote on the occasion of her 33rd birthday. She also teamed up with her younger brother Alex Watson (30) for a new project called Renais and adopted a dog called Sofia from Mexico.

The post was a testament to how much more she seems to be coming into her own, adding: "It's taken three years, but I've finally found a daily routine and can maintain it for more than a few days at a time." She now feels like a butterfly after not being ready to emerge from her "Covid cocoon" on her birthday last year.
