Heinz Hoenig - That's why he's taking part in the jungle camp

Heinz Hoenig (72) is one of the country's best-known actors and caused a real surprise when he announced that he would be moving into the jungle camp. In an interview with RTL, he revealed why he is taking part in the reality show "Ich bin ein Star - Holt mich hier raus!" and why it is anything but a step down for him.

"I just want to experience it"

In the interview, Hoenig emphasizes that at over 70, he doesn't feel too old for the challenge in Australia. Although he hasn't really followed the 16 seasons so far and has only seen a few minutes, he says: "I just wanted to do it this year. I just want to experience it. I'm free to do it now." He is excited to see what he can experience Down Under in January: "I don't know what's coming, who is taking part and what's going on." But he wants to broaden his horizons in the bush, he says, it's about "insights, knowledge - you can't buy them. You have to experience them".

He sees a change in the show's image

The fact that he is taking part in the reality show as a renowned actor is not a problem for him: " Jungle camp used to be the end ... that has turned into the opposite." He already has a great career behind him, but there is still a lot ahead of him. The RTL show is obviously an exciting adventure for him: "Hey, it's a format that I can't ignore. And something might come out of it that I don't even know yet. Which can be nice. And then my wife is involved - what's going to happen?"

Because his Annika (38) and their two young sons will be traveling to Australia with him. "It's good to have them around." But he already knows: "I'll lose them." Nevertheless, he wants to show off his strengths around the campfire: "I can love and I can cook well." His cooking skills in particular could be very valuable to the campers. Speaking of fellow campers - Heinz Hoenig relies entirely on the knowledge of human nature he has gathered during his long career: "I can tell who is afraid. I can tell who is lying and I can also tell who wants to lie." He is "prepared for everything" that awaits him in the camp. Nevertheless, he has one wish for his as yet unknown fellow contestants: "I want good people." Everyone can show emotions, show their fears. Only one thing is a no-go for him: "But don't show off!"
