Tesla lowers goal for selling 20 million automobiles.
Tesla is no longer setting its sights on selling as many cars as Volkswagen and Toyota together. The company's aim to reach 20 million cars sold annually by 2030 has been removed from their latest sustainability report. This news led to a two percent drop in Tesla's share price on Thursday.
In 2020, Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, announced this ambitious goal, "We aim to build and deliver 20 million vehicles annually by 2030. To achieve this, we need to make our products more accessible." The company even mentioned its progress towards this target in previous reports, with 1.81 million vehicles delivered in 2023, a 38% increase from the previous year. In 2020, Musk had planned for a 50% annual growth rate.
But it seems Musk has changed his mind. Now, he's focusing on autonomous driving as the primary driver for Tesla's growth. We can expect more details on the Robotaxi on August 8. However, unfortunately, Tesla has put the development of an entry-level model on hold, according to recent reports.

Tesla's revised sales target, once set at 20 million cars annually by 2030, no longer includes this figure in their latest sustainability report. With Elon Musk focusing on autonomous driving as the primary growth driver, the sales strategy for Tesla has shifted, potentially impacting their million-car goal. Despite putting the development of an entry-level model on hold, Tesla still aims to change the automotive industry with its advanced technologies.
