Event Organizers Cancel All Three Planned Taylor Swift Concerts in Vienna

The organizers of Taylor Swift's concerts in Vienna have cancelled all three scheduled shows on the eve of the first date. "Due to confirmation from government officials of a planned terrorist attack at the Ernst Happel Stadium, we have no other option but to cancel the three scheduled shows for the safety of all," the website of the organizer, Barracuda Music, states.

Taylor Swift's Fear of Terror Threat Realized

For many (mostly younger) fans of Swift, the cancellation of the concert is nothing short of a catastrophe. Getting tickets was already extremely difficult, and the anticipation was immense. However, the acute threat is likely to awaken an old fear in Swift herself. In 2019, the singer wrote in a column for the fashion magazine "Elle" about what the terrorist attack at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester had triggered in her.

On May 22, 2017, an explosion occurred in the foyer of the concert arena in the northern English city. 23 people, including many young fans, and the suicide bomber were killed. Ariana Grande herself was physically unharmed but traumatized. "After the bombing at the Manchester Arena and the shooting at the concert in Las Vegas, I had great fear of going on tour this time because I didn't know how to protect three million fans for seven months," Swift wrote two years later.

Taylor Swift's Belief in the Good

But not only that: "My fear of violence has also spilled over into my private life. I carry a QuikClot armband meant for gunshot or stab wounds," she explained. She also mentioned her struggle against stalkers. "Websites and tabloids have made it their mission to publish every private address I've ever had online. If you have enough stalkers trying to break into your house, you kind of prepare for the worst," the singer said.

She tries to remind herself of the good every day to avoid letting her life be dictated by fears. This might be particularly difficult for Swift right now.
