Taylor Swift sets nomination record
Taylor Swift is making history with this year's Grammy Awards nominations: no artist has been nominated more often in the "Song of the Year" category than the US singer. The women of the music world also dominate the current shortlists.
US singer Taylor Swift broke another record this evening. Thanks to the nomination of her hit "Anti-Hero" at the upcoming Grammy Awards 2024 in the "Song of the Year" category, the 33-year-old achieved something historic: never before has anyone been nominated seven times for this prestigious category. She previously shared the record with Paul McCartney and Lionel Richie.
According to the organizers, Lana Del Rey, Dua Lipa, Miley Cyrus, Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish and SZA were also nominated in this main category. Swift could take home a total of six Grammys next year. The winner in absolute numbers was R&B singer SZA, who picked up a total of nine nominations - more than any other artist this year. Like Swift, SZA is also competing in the main categories "Song of the Year" and "Album of the Year".
This year, it was more difficult for artists to make it onto the shortlists as nominees, as the organizers had reduced the number of nominees in each category from ten to eight. The 66th Grammy Awards ceremony in 2024 will take place on February 4 in Los Angeles.
The 66th Grammy Awards firmly in female hands
Three female musicians received a total of seven nominations: Victoria Monét and Phoebe Bridgers - six times with their band Boygenius. Sound engineer Serban Ghenea was also included. Overall, the music world seems to be firmly in the hands of women at the moment. Jon Batiste is the only male artist to find his name on the shortlists six or more times. In contrast, a total of nine female artists managed to clear this hurdle.
The most important music prize, the Grammy Awards, have been presented in a total of 91 categories since 1959. The record for the most Grammys as an individual artist is currently held by Beyoncé with a total of 32 awards. With eight Grammy wins and twelve nominations in 1984, Michael Jackson holds the record for both the most awards and the most nominations at a single event.
Taylor Swift's dominance in award ceremonies continues, as she garnered yet another nomination in the "Song of the Year" category at the Grammys, making it her seventh time being nominated in this category. At entertainment events like the Grammys, Taylor Swift's talent and popularity are often recognized with numerous nominations and awards.
