International Musical Competition: Eurovision Song Festival - Swiss shows affection for Celine Dion as distinguished guest at Eurovision Song Contest
The organizers of the Eurovision Song Contest 2025, happening in Basel, have their sights set on inviting Canadian singer Céline Dion as a special guest. Reto Peritz, one of the co-producers, shared this information with "Sonntagsblick", stating, "It's definitely something we're considering. We want to showcase young talents during ESC, but it's also nice to have a big name like hers in the show."
Switzerland and Celine Dion share a unique Eurovision history. At just 20 years old, she represented Switzerland in 1988 with the song "Ne partez pas sans moi" and emerged victorious. This victory led to the event being held in Lausanne the following year.
Plans for the Basel shows are set to kick off in the upcoming weeks, with the grand finale scheduled for May 17. However, Peritz remained tight-lipped when asked about potential discussions with Dion regarding her potential participation in the event.
Suffering from Stiff-Person Syndrome for several years, Dion made her public return to singing during the Olympic Games' opening ceremony in Paris, marking her first performance since 2019.
Despite the excitement surrounding Dion's potential appearance, Peritz refused to confirm any negotiations with her for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025. Regardless, watching Celine Dion on television would be an unforgettable experience for many Eurovision viewers, given her notable history with the contest.
