This surge came after the pop star publicly endorsed Democratic candidate Kamala Harris for the 2024 presidential elections, opposite Republican incumbent Donald Trump.

During a debate between Harris and Trump, Swift shared her support on Instagram, stating, "I'll be voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 presidential elections." She further explained her decision, highlighting Harris's commitment to fighting for important causes that Swift believes require a strong advocate. "I think Kamala is a sharp, capable leader who can lead our country to better heights with her calm approach, not chaos," she stated.

Swift also emphasized the necessity of voter registration, inviting her 284 million followers to do their research and make an informed decision. "I've made my choice," she concluded. "Remember, you have to be registered to vote."

Swift's words appear to have sparked action among her fans. On the night of her announcement, the voting information site "Vote.gov" saw a whopping 405,999 visitors in a 24-hour period, as reported by a GSA spokesperson to U.S. magazine Variety. This massive influx in visitors surpassed the daily average of 30,000 by over ten times (September 3rd - 9th).

While it's unclear exactly how many visitors ended up registering following Swift's post, the GSA reported that over 27,000 new registrations and over 80,000 registration status checks were made on September 11th, indicating a considerable impact from Swift's endorsement. Keep in mind that "Vote.gov" does not directly facilitate voter registration, instead directing users to their state-specific websites.
