Consequently, Alec Baldwin will not be held responsible in any new criminal proceedings for the fatal shot. He was facing up to 18 months in prison. Civil lawsuits, however, are excluded from this.
Armorer from "Rust" Set went to prison
The authorities had withheld a statement from Baldwin's lawyers about a load of live ammunition, which could have been the fatal bullet's origin. The withholding of this evidence significantly harmed the defendant, as the judge stated in her argument.
In October 2021, Halyna Hutchins (1979-2021), a 42-year-old Ukrainian cinematographer, was fatally shot on the "Rust" film set with a bullet from a gun held by Baldwin. The person responsible for weapons handling on the set, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed (27), was sentenced to 18 months in prison for involuntary manslaughter in April. The reason the gun was loaded with live ammunition is still unclear.
