Wedel - Suspects free after teacher assault with knives

After the violent attack at a Volkshochschule in Wedel near Hamburg, four suspect brothers have been released on bail. There is no pressing suspicion against the Syrians aged 17, 19 and 21, which would have justified a warrant for their arrest, said a spokeswoman for the Itzehoe Police Department to the news agency DPA. However, they are still the focus of the investigation.

The 67-year-old music teacher from Tornesch (Pinneberg District) was reportedly stabbed several times in the parking lot of the Volkshochschule Wedel on a Friday afternoon. According to the police, it was initially assumed that two male suspects were involved, one of whom was allegedly present. Contrary to initial reports on Friday, the victim was not in critical condition after the attack, according to the police. The investigation is ongoing for attempted murder.

Background in Wedel still unclear

The four brothers were reportedly arrested in Wedel shortly after the incident. Initially, the police only reported the arrests of the two 21-year-old brothers. The background of the crime is still unclear, it was stated.

Regarding the relationship between the perpetrators and the victim, the police spokeswoman made no concrete statements. "They might have known each other," she only said. Whether they were students of the teacher was neither confirmed nor denied.

The four brothers, released on bail by the Itzehoe Police Department, were initially arrested in the vicinity of the Volkshochschule in Wedel, where a music teacher was attacked with a Messerstrike on VHS tapes. The investigation into the background of the incident in Hamburg's Pinneberg District is still ongoing, as the relationship between the perpetrators and the victim remains unclear.
