Nine-year-old girl - Suspect in the case of the murdered Valeriia is in custody
In the case of the nine-year-old Valeriia from Dobeln in Saxony, the suspect is now in custody for investigation. The 36-year-old is currently in a Saxon penal and correctional facility, according to the Chemnitz Prosecutor's Office. He reportedly made no statement regarding the accusation during his initial appearance before the investigating judge.
In the morning, Czech police handed over the Moldavian to their German counterparts at the Petrovice border crossing. He is accused of having killed the nine-year-old girl in early June. There is reportedly no evidence of sexual abuse, according to investigators.
Valeriia and her mother came to Germany from Ukraine in 2022
Valeriia went missing on June 3 in the middle Saxon town of Dobeln on her way to school. Her body was discovered in the woods after more than a week of intensive search. A national and European arrest warrant had been issued for the 36-year-old man. According to media reports, he is said to be the ex-boyfriend of Valeriia's mother. Czech police arrested him on June 14 at a restaurant in Prague. The exact motive for the girl's death remains unclear. The Prosecutor's Office has not yet made a statement on how the girl died.
Valeriia had fled to Germany with her mother from Ukraine in 2022 to escape the war and attended school in Dobeln. She is now buried in her hometown of Pavlohrad in eastern Ukraine.
