Surprise visit: Michelle Obama (59) turned up at the "American Symphony" premiere in New Orleans. On Thursday evening, the former First Lady surprised the audience with a speech, reports "The Hollywood Reporter". Together with her husband Barack Obama (60), she is the executive producer of the new Netflix documentary about the musician Jon Batiste (37) and his wife Suleika Jaouad (35).
Obama is pleased with the results of the film project
"I'm thrilled to be here in New Orleans with all of you to celebrate this amazing film that we are so honored and proud to be a part of," the 59-year-old said. She said she was glad that the premiere took place in this special city: "And there is no better place to honor this work than in the city where music is at the center, because music is at the center of this film."
The former First Lady is proud of the project: "This movie is about so much more than just the meteoric rise of one man. It's the story of two souls - Jon and Suleika - on parallel paths."
Compliments to the director
She also dedicated a few words to the film's director Matthew Heineman (40) and thanked him for his "extraordinary work". "Like the protagonists of his film, he has the gift of showing us what's inside all of us, even if we can't express it ourselves," said Obama.
"American Symphony" is a portrait of the multi-instrumentalist Jon Batiste, who wants to master an ambitious challenge: composing the "American Symphony". But then his wife falls ill with cancer.
