- "Such barbaricacts of brutality are utterly unacceptable"

After the horrific incident in Solingen, where an individual slaughtered three individuals with a knife during a city celebration and gravely injured at least five others, politicians are left in disbelief.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz expressed his shock through a short message service on Saturday, stating, "The Solingen incident is a heart-wrenching event that leaves me in deep sorrow." A ruthless perpetrator took numerous lives. Scholz had previously communicated with Solingen's mayor, Tim Kurzbach. "We grieve for the victims and extend our support to their families." Scholz hoped for a swift recovery for the injured. "The offender must be swiftly apprehended and punished under the full power of the law," Scholz demanded.

Vice-Chancellor Robert Habeck also shares the dismay. "Dreadful, unsettling news from Solingen," the Minister of Economics shared on his Instagram account. "Violence against individuals who were merely celebrating is appalling." The Green politician extended strength and comfort to the relatives of the deceased. "I wish the injured a swift recovery, and those who witnessed this horrific event also strength!" It's reassuring to know that the police are now making every effort to find the perpetrator as soon as possible.

Baerbock labels the incident as "brutal attack"

Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock voiced her dismay through a short message service about a "brutal attack" that left her in deep shock. "My thoughts are with the families and friends of the victims. And my gratitude goes out to the security forces who are tirelessly searching for the perpetrator."

Interior Minister Nancy Faeser shared similar sentiments. "We mourn the individuals who were so cruelly taken away from this world," the SPD politician wrote on X. "My thoughts are with the families of the deceased and the severely injured." The security authorities would dedicate every effort to apprehend the perpetrator and investigate the motives behind the attack. The North Rhine-Westphalia police have the full support of the federal government. "I am in constant communication with NRW Interior Minister Herbert Reul and our security authorities," Faeser wrote.

Lindner: "We cannot remain helpless"

Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner highlighted that feelings of powerlessness and fury quickly emerge alongside the grief over the victims of the Solingen attack. "I feel this too," the FDP leader wrote on X. "But we can't let it get to us. We're not helpless, and we need decisive action from the police and the rule of law."

CDU leader Friedrich Merz also shared his shock. "The Solingen attack wounds us deeply. This barbaric violence is unacceptable," Merz wrote on Saturday through a short messaging service. "We must unite during these challenging hours for North Rhine-Westphalia." The police are now making every effort to capture the perpetrator quickly.

Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier urged accountability for the attacker. "The perpetrator must be held responsible," Steinmeier explained. He also urged the population: "Let's stand together – against hate and violence." On the attack, he added: "The appalling act in Solingen stuns me, it stuns our country."

Reul warned against speculations. "We can't say anything about the person and the motive yet," the politician, who had visited the crime scene overnight, said. "There simply aren't any solid facts."

Wüst condemns the attack in Solingen

North Rhine-Westphalia's Minister President Hendrik Wüst also commented overnight. On the platform "X," he condemned the attack as "an act of brutal and senseless violence." The deed had "struck our country to the heart."

North Rhine-Westphalia stands united in shock and grief. "In these dark hours, people across our country and beyond are with Solingen in their hearts and thoughts," the CDU politician wrote further. And: "A big thank you goes out to the many emergency services and our police, who are fighting for lives in these minutes."

The Mayor of Solingen, Tim Kurzbach, addressed the public on Facebook late in the evening. "It tears my heart apart that our city was the target of an attack," he wrote. "I have tears in my eyes when I think of those we have lost."

The Commission, composed of politicians and ministers, has been expressing their condolences and concern following the incident in Solingen. For instance, Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock addressed a "brutal attack" through a short message service and urged for the apprehension of the perpetrator.

Additionally, Interior Minister Nancy Faeser shared similar sentiments, stating that their thoughts are with the families and the injured, and expressing the full support of the federal government for the North Rhine-Westphalia police in their efforts to capture the perpetrator and investigate the attack's motives.
