- "Strengthening self-esteem" is important
Matt Damon is the only man among five women at home. Isabella (18), Gia (15), and Stella (13) are from his 2005 marriage to Argentine-born Luciana "Lucy" Barroso (48). He is also a stepfather to Alexia (25), whom his wife brought into the relationship.
Damon doesn't exchange parenting tips with celebrity friends like his "The Instigators" colleague Casey Affleck (49), who has a 20-year-old and a 16-year-old son. "I don't think we exchange many fatherly tips. We talk about it, but more in amazement at how fast time goes," the Oscar winner told "People" magazine. "Suddenly, your child is going to college, and it's happening quickly," he joked.
Matt Damon: "It's about boosting their self-esteem"
Matt Damon was a guest on SiriusXM's Radio Andy earlier this month and spoke with host Andy Cohen (56) about his role as a father. The actor didn't offer specific tips for fathers of daughters but said, "I wouldn't presume to give anyone advice, except to just listen and be helpful." He added, "Ultimately, it's about boosting their self-esteem." Because: "You won't be there for 99 percent of the decisions they make," Damon said.
That this approach has already worked with the oldest of his four daughters is evident in the relationship Alexia has. "Our 25-year-old has this great boyfriend, Lucy and I just love," Damon said of his daughter. "We admire the guy, and seeing her make these kinds of decisions is really the best," he explained to Cohen.
Matt Damon emphasized the importance of boosting his daughters' self-esteem in raising them, as he believed that parents aren't present for the majority of their children's decisions. This approach has contributed to the positive relationship his oldest daughter, Alexia, has with her boyfriend.
