Prince William - Starring role in new documentary about homelessness

Prince William (42) will make his engagement against homelessness more known. In June 2023, he presented his new initiative "Homewards." This initiative aims to make homelessness in the UK "rare, short-lived, and not recurring."

For a year, the British heir allowed himself to be filmed while working for "Homewards." The two-part documentary "Prince William: We Can End Homelessness" (in German: "Prinz William: Wir können Obdachlosigkeit beenden") will be released on the British TV-channel ITV1 in the fall.

"Incredibly moving stories"

"Last year, we accompanied Prince William and the Royal Foundation during the first year of the 'Homewards' program. We heard some incredibly moving stories from people all over the country who are affected by homelessness," quotes the US magazine "People" Leo Burley, the BAFTA-awarded director of the docu. The two films will provide a comprehensive picture of homelessness in the UK and attract much attention to the topic through Prince William's prominence.

Fighting homelessness is William's heart's concern

The fight against the homelessness crisis in his homeland has been an issue for Prince William for decades. He was introduced to this cause by his mother, Princess Diana (1961-1997), who took him and his brother, Prince Harry (39), on visits to homeless shelters as children. She did this to bring the real world outside the royal bubble closer to her sons.

So, he feels the same way today with his own children. The "Sunday Times" reported in June 2023 that he discusses the topic of homelessness with Prince George (10), Princess Charlotte (9), and Prince Louis (6) during their car rides to school. "During our commute to school, we talk about it. While driving back and forth in London, we regularly see people sitting in front of supermarkets," he explained.

William finds it important that his children "grow up with the knowledge that some of us are very lucky, that some of us need a helping hand, and that some of us have to do more and help others improve their lives."
