Star Trek fans are mourning the loss of Patti Yasutake

Patti Yasutake gained fame through the series "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and several subsequent "Star Trek" films. Most recently, she appeared in the Netflix hit "Beef". She has now passed away at the age of 70 after a long battle with cancer.

In "Star Trek: The Next Generation", she played the nurse Alyssa Ogawa. Now, Patricia Sue Yasutake, known as Patti Yasutake, has died. The 70-year-old passed away in Santa Monica on Monday, August 5, after a long fight against cancer, as reported by industry magazine "The Hollywood Reporter" among others.

Her long-time manager Kyle Fritz shared the sad news and expressed his condolences: "Patti was my first client when I started over 30 years ago. We enjoyed every day we could work together. I will miss her spirit, her talent, and her tenacity, but most of all, her friendship."

Last seen in Netflix hit "Beef"

The American actress, who was seen in her first TV and film productions in the 1980s, stood in front of the camera again just a few years ago - most recently for the Netflix success "Beef", alongside Ali Wong and Steven Yeun. In it, Yasutake played the role of Fumi Nakai, the mother of the character George.

The native Californian, who completed a degree in theater studies, gained worldwide recognition for her supporting role as Alyssa Ogawa in "Star Trek: The Next Generation". Apart from her appearances from the fourth season of the series, Yasutake also reprised the role in the films "Star Trek: Generations" (1994) and "Star Trek: First Contact" (1996). Among her other TV appearances were roles in "The Closer" and the successful medical drama "Grey's Anatomy".

Patti Yasutake leaves behind her siblings Linda Hayashi and Steve Yasutake, according to US reports.

Patti Yasutake's career in "Star Trek" extended beyond the television series, as she also appeared in the films "Star Trek: Generations" and "Star Trek: First Contact." Following her successful run in "Star Trek: The Next Generation," she reprised her role as Alyssa Ogawa in these films.

Despite her recent role in the Netflix hit "Beef," her acting career spanned several decades, with her first appearances in TV and film productions in the 1980s.
