incurable disease - Star director David Lynch is suffering from pulmonary emphysema.

US Filmmaker David Lynch, despite a severe lung condition, has no plans to retire from the film industry. The 78-year-old, a lifelong smoker, revealed on Monday that he has been diagnosed with lung emphysema. He enjoyed smoking but now regrets it, having quit two years ago. Apart from the emphysema diagnosis, he is in "excellent shape". He is happy and has no intention of retiring, Lynch stated. Lung emphysema occurs when air becomes trapped in the lungs, reducing the lung volume available for breathing.

Lung Condition Significantly Impacts David Lynch

Previously, in an interview with the British magazine "Sight & Sound", Lynch spoke about his condition, saying he is now mostly housebound and must be cautious. Leading a film set in person is currently unimaginable for him, and he can only contribute remotely.

The director of cult classics like "Eraserhead", "Blue Velvet", and "Wild at Heart", Lynch returned to screens in 2017 with new episodes of the mystery cult series "Twin Peaks". In recent years, he has directed short films and written screenplays. He also appeared as an actor in "The Fabelmans" (2022) for director Steven Spielberg, playing a small role as film director John Ford.

Despite his lung emphysema significantly impacting his ability to lead film sets in person, David Lynch continues to contribute to the film industry remotely. His diagnosis of pulmonary emphysema, as described by medical experts, involves air becoming trapped in the lungs, reducing the lung volume available for breathing.
