Taylor Swift in Gelsenkirchen - Stalker taken into custody before first show
Taylor Swift (34) stops in Germany. After the first "The Eras" concert here on Wednesday evening (17. July) in Gelsenkirchen at the Veltins-Arena, the police gave their balance. The show of the US singer in the Veltins-Arena was "a peaceful event" where the around 60,000 visitors "sang, danced and celebrated", according to a statement from 18. July. However, there was an incident before the concert.
"According to information from the event management, the police arrested a stalker before the concert", the Gelsenkirchen police statement reads. Previously, there had been threats against the singer. The police made no further statements.
Complicated Arrival
In the balance, the police also included the traffic jams that had formed around the arena in the afternoon before the concert. "Accidents on the A2 had made the journey of many fans difficult in the run-up", it is explained. "At times around the arena there was an increased traffic volume, which is usual for events of this size." Since there were traffic jams on the A2 around Gelsenkirchen in both directions in the afternoon, the police recommended via Social Media three alternative ways to get to the concert location in "Swiftkirchen".
Apparently, fans had to spend a little more time after the concert as well. "Due to a police operation in the vicinity of the arena, there are currently traffic disruptions during the departure from the Taylor Swift concert. We ask for patience", it said in a post by the police at X.
Overall, Taylor Swift is scheduled for three concerts at the Schalke-Arena - the next two dates are on this Thursday (18. July) and Friday (19. July). After that, it goes to Hamburg for concerts on 23. and 24. July and to Munich for shows on 27. and 28. July.
