Sport1 abolishes "Sexy Sport Clips"

The "Sexy Sport Clips" are an institution in German television, albeit a often ridiculed one. Sport1 is now finally pulling the plug and will instead air docu-reality formats. The decision is part of a new "Programm-Offensive".

From now on, Sport1 will no longer broadcast erotic content at night. The "Programm-Offensive" begins this week, as the channel based in Ismaning, Bavaria, announced. For many years, the night schedule featured "Sexy Sport Clips", interrupted by telephone sex advertising.

This is now part of the past with the new TV season. The free-TV broadcaster has acquired numerous docu-reality formats according to its statement. Among them are the formats "Highway Cops" and "Highway Patrol", the BBC-produced series "Neighbourhood Blues", the series "Cops - Criminals in Sight", as well as "Border Patrol - Cuba", "Border Patrol - Latin America", and "Border Patrol - Rome".

These formats will be aired both during the day and at night. "Thus, Sport1 will accordingly redesign its night-time programming," the broadcaster stated. Sport1 manager Christian Madlind explained: "We are expanding our existing sports offering and, as previously announced, building up our entertainment portfolio with strong docu-reality blocks in the daytime and night-time programming."

Sport1 had already changed its programming in February and introduced the "Sport1 Film-Friday". The broadcaster is collaborating with Constantin Film for this. Since then, Sport1 has been airing films such as "The Super Cops" or "Voll normaal". The series "Hausmeister Krause" also returned to TV. Five episodes are broadcast weekly. "An unusual programming for the niche channel, which, with a view to the current quotas on Friday evenings, does not have too much to lose," writes DWDL about it.

With the departure of "Sexy Sport Clips," Sport1 is shifting its focus to docu-reality formats. Instead of erotic content, viewers can now expect shows like "Highway Cops" and "Neighbourhood Blues."

As part of their "Programm-Offensive," Sport1 is airing docu-reality formats both day and night, diversifying their entertainment offerings beyond sports.
