Söder proposes a detailed plan for mandatory conscription.

Since 2011, compulsory military service has been on hold, but recently there's been an increase in calls for its reinstatement. Both Bavarian Minister President Söder and the head of the German Armed Forces Association are pushing for a quick plan in this direction.

During an interview with Bild am Sonntag, Bavarian Minister President Markus Söder expressed his support for swift actions to reintroduce mandatory military service. He urged Federal Minister of Defense Boris Pistorius to "swiftly present the number of soldiers Germany needs, when this will occur, and how modern compulsory military service can be structured," along with a financial plan.

Söder is also advocating for a substantial increase in Germany's defense budget. "The aim for future budgets should be to dedicate not just two percent, but three percent of gross domestic product to defense," he stated.

The head of the Bundeswehr Association, André Wüstner, also voiced his support for an expedited reintroduction of mandatory military service. In an interview with "Bams," Wüstner asserted, "It's not a matter of if compulsory military service will be reintroduced, but only of 'how.'"

He emphasized the significance of implementing registration and conscription as a first step. "Compulsory military service, which has been overlooked in recent years, is more important than ever for an army that needs to concentrate on national and alliance defense," Wüstner explained. The application of compulsory military service was suspended in the middle of 2011, but the legal framework remains in place.
