Fans of Lena Meyer-Landrut can breathe a sigh of relief: After having to cancel two concerts due to health issues, it seems that she is on the road to recovery. The 33-year-old singer took to Instagram to speak out and wrote: "Slowly getting back on track. A few days of rest were necessary. Thank you for your healing wishes and patience." She also shared a photo of herself outdoors wearing sunglasses and a baseball cap.
Lena Meyer-Landrut suffered from severe abdominal and kidney pains
Meyer-Landrut was supposed to perform at the "Tollwood Festival" in Munich on June 29th, but had to cancel the concert at short notice. On Instagram, she shared: "I wasn't feeling well for days and then I got strong abdominal and kidney pains just before the show start, had to be taken to the hospital instead. I'm deeply sorry that you all had to wait for so long and had to leave disappointed. My conscience bothers me, but my body said no." The following day's concert in Baden-Württemberg, Wangen was also cancelled, as Meyer-Landrut's condition had worsened. "She had to go back to the hospital with strong pains," read a statement from her team.
Fans are now hoping that Meyer-Landrut will fully recover in order to perform the remaining concerts of her ongoing tour. The next performance is scheduled for July 19th in Plauen.
Horseback riding accident and Depression
In recent years, the singer has had repeated health issues. In April 2019, she had to cancel an appearance on the show "Inas Nacht" due to a stomach infection, and in December of the same year, she was hospitalized with a kidney inflammation. In the previous year, she fell from a horse during a riding session and fractured two vertebrae. "When you're lying there and then think 'If only it hadn't gone that way, I wouldn't be able to use my legs anymore.' That's really hard," she said a few months after the accident in the SWR3-Podcast, "1 plus 1 – Friendship in Time".
Additionally, the singer has often spoken about her struggles with mental health issues and depression. She told the magazine "Der Spiegel" a few weeks ago: "I had a really dark phase in the spring of 2022. And at the end of last year, it wasn't going well for me either. I had a depression relapse." And further: "For me, this diagnosis is just part of my life, part of normalcy. It belongs to me." She has been in therapy for years and has "learned tools to deal with the pressure". "It's all about breaking thought spirals," said Meyer-Landrut, who has been in the public eye since her Eurovision Song Contest win for Germany in 2010 at the age of 19.
