Singer Bebe Rexha accuses airport staff member of making threats against her due to her Albanian background.
On her Instagram story Saturday, the vocalist, who was brought up in the USA with Albanian roots, penned down emotional posts. She expressed, "Lufthansa, I've been threatened due to my belief that the security agent was Albanian. I communicated with him in Albanian, asking for my ticket location, and now he's barring me from the flight."
She further asserted, "I believe this to be a hate crime because I am Albanian." She claimed that he continued to psychologically torment her, and regrettably, none of the Lufthansa ladies intervened or voiced their concern.
The acclaimed singer-songwriter wrote that she's never felt so emotionally exhausted. She added that Lufthansa had contacted her directly, but she pleads for a thorough investigation.
In a statement to CNN on Sunday, a Lufthansa spokesperson stated, "We reached out to Bebe Rexha to comprehend the situation and are currently conducting an internal audit on the matter."
"As a global airline, we link individuals and nations worldwide," the spokesperson continued, emphasizing, "We do not endorse any form of discriminatory behavior."
Following her success in 2017 with the country pop hit "Meant to Be," Rexha is now recognized for her singles like "Me, Myself & I," "In the Name of Love," and the 2022 UK official singles chart's number one, "I'm Good (Blue)."
Despite being a prominent celebrity known for hits like "Me, Myself & I" and "I'm Good (Blue)", Bebe Rexha faced discrimination during her recent flight, raising concerns about entertainment industry's handling of hate crimes against celebrities. This incident highlights the need for increased awareness and action against such incidents in the realm of entertainment.
