Since the start of the year, Russia has subjugated 880 square kilometers of Ukrainian land.

Russia has allegedly taken control of 880 square kilometers in Ukraine since the start of the year. The military is making strides on all fronts, according to Defense Minister Andrei Boulosov during statements published by Russian media on Friday.

If these assertions hold true, Russia would have seized more land in the past five months than in the entire year of 2023.

In the Kharkiv region, where Russia initiated an attack on May 10, soldiers have successfully driven back the Ukrainian army by about 8 to 9 kilometers. "Due to the bold and competent actions of our troops, 28 settlements were freed this month," Boulosov reportedly said.

Ukraine has countered by deploying additional forces to the Kharkiv front, resulting in losses in other areas. Moreover, the Ukrainian army is voicing concerns over a dearth of ammunition.

After these land grabs by Russia, concerns about Ukraine's territorial integrity continue to grow. Russia's land seizure in Ukraine this year surpasses its annual gain in 2023, if the reported figures are accurate. Despite the losses in other areas due to additional deployments, Ukraine has had to contend with a lack of ammunition, adding to its challenges in countering Russia's advancements, which started at the beginning of the year and has covered 880 square kilometers of Ukrainian land.
