She's recovering from a bicycle accident at Olympia.

Nina Dobrev of 'The Vampire Diaries' suffered a bad bike accident in May. She is now recovering, including at the Olympics.

Nina Dobrev - She's recovering from a bicycle accident at Olympia.

Don't rush it: Nina Dobrev (35) takes her recovery in small steps. In May, the "Vampire Diaries" star shattered her left knee in a motorcycle accident. In an update on her recovery to "Entertainment Weekly" and the "People** magazine," she reports progress but also says, "We still have a long way to go." To take her mind off things, she recently visited the Olympic Games in Paris - naturally, with her life partner and three-time Olympic champion Shaun White (37).

First Dirt Bike outing bites back

The Bulgarian native is quite athletic herself. And since she's been linked to the three-time Olympic snowboard champion, sports are probably even more a part of her daily routine. So, in May, she ventured onto sporting terrain she should have avoided. She hopped on a so-called Dirt Bike and suffered a wrist and knee fracture. "I lost control while doing a wheelie, gave too much gas, and landed on my left leg. Then, the leg just snapped at the knee." Dobrev's ACL and meniscus were torn, and she began a months-long rehab phase.

"We still have a long way to go"

She's now been recovering from the consequences of the accident for over three and a half months. "I think I'm doing pretty well," Dobrev told "People" magazine on Wednesday. "I'm a little ahead of schedule in terms of healing, but it's still a very long process." Her doctors are "pretty surprised" by her progress so far. At the same time, she initially didn't realize that recovery could take up to a year: "We still have a long way to go," she said. "And often, people reinjure themselves at this point in the recovery process because they feel good. And then they start doing normal things. I have to remind myself that I'm still in rehab and have a bit more time ahead of me."

Rehab getaway with Shaun White to Paris

With such prospects, a little change of pace does good, Dobrev and partner Shaun White must have thought. So, the star actress and mega-athlete packed their bags and crutches to watch some competitions at the Olympic Games in Paris. Among the many celebrities currently at Olympia, the couple that has been together since 2020 was also spotted. Naturally, Dobrev, who is still handicapped, also hit her limits here and relied on gentleman Shaun White: "In Paris, many streets are closed off for the Olympics. So, you have to walk from venue to venue" - theoretically. White quickly organized a wheelchair for her and took over personal care: "He was by my side the whole time, taking care of me." Sounds like a successful trip into the world of sports and the city of love that should have boosted the 35-year-old in her rehab phase.

Dobrev visited the Olympic Games in Paris as a break from her recovery, and she relied on Shaun White for assistance due to the closed streets during the Olympics. Despite her progress, she acknowledged that "We still have a long way to go" in her recovery process, as she risked reinjuring herself if she started doing normal activities too soon.
