Sheila E. was denied entry into Paisley Park on Prince's birthday and is demanding the return of her drum set.
As stated by a previous Prince protégée, she wasn't granted entry into the recording studio at Paisley Park in Minneapolis when she visited to honor what would have been Prince's 66th birthday on June 7th.
"I arrived to celebrate him, and I wanted to conduct a live video, snap a photo, and they said, 'No,'" expressed Sheila E. in a video uploaded to Instagram. "My heart is shattered. I can't even enter Paisley. That's incredibly wrong."
Paisley Park issued a response to her declaration through social media, providing reasoning for their refusal to accept her.
"Hello Sheila – We adore and value you, and we did propose for you to come in and record in the soundstage or other spaces, but we couldn't permit filming in the studios without foreknowledge and planning, more so with tours occurring at the time," the statement mentioned. "We hope to receive you back at Paisley Park in the future — just give us notice! Enjoy Prince Day."
In an additional note, Sheila E. expressed her wish to have her drum set, at present being en route to Paisley Park which currently functions as a Prince memorial, retrieved.
CNN has attempted to acquire response from representatives for both Sheila E. and Paisley Park employees.
Prince passed away in April 2016 following an unintentional fatal overdose of the opioid fentanyl.
He partnered with Sheila E. on a multitude of songs, one of them being her breakthrough hit in 1984 titled "The Glamorous Life."
Based on TwinCities.com, Sheila E. was in Minnesota for a performance with Morris Day & the Time, who are also former proteges of Prince and co-starred alongside him in the blockbuster movie "Purple Rain."
