Grey's Anatomy - She speaks about miscarriage for the first time

American actress Jessica Capshaw (47) spoke for the first time about her miscarriage. The experience was "the most shocking and deeply sad thing" she had ever been through.

Miscarriage between third and fourth child

In a new episode of her "Call It What It Is" podcast, which she co-hosts with her "Grey's Anatomy" colleague Camilla Luddington (40), Capshaw revealed her miscarriage when a listener wanted to know if having a third child was a good decision.

While Luddington said she had been "easy" clear that two children were enough, Capshaw shared: "I think the answer is that it's a very personal answer." It's helpful to "really, really be in touch with yourself and be really, really honest with yourself and your partner." Coming from a large family, it was natural for her to have more children herself. Her first three children came quite quickly.

After that, she wanted another one, and her husband found the idea "fantastic." "I got pregnant and was so excited. Beforehand, I had never had any problems. I had great luck and am very grateful," Capshaw recalled. But then came the shock: "Suddenly, at my appointment in the 10th week, I went to the ultrasound. I was alone, hadn't expected it at all, and there was no heartbeat." She hadn't expected it after her three healthy children. The experience was "the most shocking and deeply sad thing" she had ever been through. She didn't know whether to call her husband right away or tell him personally later. Fortunately, she had a compassionate doctor who guided her through the entire process, full of "pain" and "disappointments."

After the miscarriage, she had to undergo a scraping. "And then life went on, and I had the chance to focus on myself, my body, my relationship, and my other children, and it was really incredible," Capshaw added.

Married for 20 years

She has been married to entrepreneur Christopher Gavigan (50) since 2004. They have a son and three daughters: Luke (16), Eve (13), Poppy (12), and Josephine (8). Capshaw appeared in films such as "Scream 3" and "Minority Report" (2002). Additionally, she was in several series like "Bones - The Bone Collector," "Practice - The Anatomy of a Crime," and "The L Word – When Women Love Women."

Best known for her role as pediatric surgeon Dr. Arizona Robbins in "Grey's Anatomy," she made a comeback in the 20th season.
