On August 6, Grand Central Publishing announced the acquisition of the memoirs of showbiz icon Liza Minnelli (78). The publisher also revealed that the book is expected to be released in spring 2026 in hardcover, e-book, and audio formats. Minnelli will not write the book alone; her long-time friend and business partner Michael Feinstein (67) will co-author it.

Minnelli herself spoke out on Instagram, writing in the caption: "Today, I open my heart and lungs to tell a story that has never been told. Mine. I bare my words and share truths."

Liza Minnelli: "It's my own story"

A statement from the actress included in the publisher's announcement reveals the various reasons that led Minnelli to start the project. "Tell it when I'm gone," was her original philosophy, believing that a book about her life should only come out after her death.

However, several events led to her change of mind: "A botched Oscar performance in front of billions, a film full of twisted half-truths, a recent miniseries that just didn't get it right." Finally, the Broadway star snapped, writing in the statement: "One evening over dinner, I decided it's my own damn story. I'll share it with you because you've given me so much love."

What will it be about?

The memoirs promise a personal glimpse into Minnelli's journey, accompanying her through her eventful life with all its highs and lows: from her childhood in the spotlight to her major successes, her tumultuous marriages, and her struggles with substance abuse. The book will unveil all the experiences that have made her one of the most captivating artists in entertainment history.

Who is Liza Minnelli?

Liza Minnelli grew up in the spotlight, the daughter of acting legend and singer Judy Garland (1922-1969) and film director Vincente Minnelli (1903-1986).

At just 19, she made Broadway history by becoming the youngest woman ever to win a Tony Award for her role in "Flora the Red Menace." She won an Oscar for Best Actress for her role in "Cabaret" (1972). She also shone on television with her special "Liza with a Z," winning an Emmy in 1973. Many other prestigious awards followed, including the Grammy Legend Award in 1989.

Thus, Liza Minnelli is a member of the select group of "EGOT" winners, artists who have won all four major entertainment industry awards - Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony.

"Lady peaceful, lady happy"

In the publisher's announcement, Minnelli writes that she has finally arrived and describes herself as "Lady peaceful, lady happy" - a reference to her song "Maybe This Time" (1978). She assures her fans: "Until this book comes out, you should know that I'm laughing, secure, surrounded by loved ones, and eager to see what's around the next bend in life."

After sharing her decision to write her memoirs, Liza Minnelli used Instagram to express her excitement, stating, "I can't wait to start this journey and share my story with all of you." Later, in an interview, she mentioned, "Instagram has become a great platform to connect with my fans and I'm looking forward to using it to promote the book as well."
