Shannen Doherty - She noticed affair before brain surgery
US actress Shannen Doherty (52) has revealed that she found out just before her brain tumor operation that her husband Kurt Iswarienko (49) had been cheating on her for a long time. The "Beverly Hills, 90210" star spoke about this in detail in the first episode of the new podcast "Let's Be Clear". In it, she also made it clear that this crisis led to the final end of their love. She filed for divorce in April 2023 after around twelve years of marriage and a 14-year relationship due to "irreconcilable differences".
She had gone to the operating theater early in the morning after finding out that her marriage was at an end. Her husband had already been having an affair for two years. Although her husband wanted to accompany her to the hospital, she refused: "I felt so betrayed." At that moment, she also felt "incredibly unloved" by someone she loved with all her heart.
However, she no longer wanted his support at her side and instead relied on the help of friends and family: "I went into this operation, thank God, with my mother by my side, with my brother by my side, with my best friend Chris by my side, my friends...." Everyone had prayed for her, texted her. Nevertheless, she was petrified before the procedure.

Unfortunately, her tumor could not be completely removed during the operation, but the doctors were still satisfied. She then had to undergo radiotherapy. It was hard to go through all that while trying to figure out whether a divorce was inevitable.
During this phase, she was obsessed with finding out exactly what had happened during the affair. She wanted to find out "through conversations", in the expectation that they would answer her honestly. "If you've been together for 14 years and you cheat, doesn't that person deserve the absolute truth, no matter how much it hurts them?" asks Doherty.
It was only thanks to this tactic that she was able to get her degree, even though she became sad and angry: "It might really suck to hear that, but I needed to hear it." She also sought contact with her rival and spoke to her. Everything would have been very "embarrassing", Doherty said. "I'm horrified that I can't maintain a relationship," she continues. However, she still believes in love.
Shannen Doherty: "It's still very difficult"
Although infidelity had actually always been an immediate reason for her to break up before, she had struggled with her decision. "I was so confused [...] and honestly, it's still very hard," Doherty continued. She still has a lot of memories of Kurt to this day. Ultimately, she also takes some responsibility for the breakdown of her marriage, including how the cancer affected her marriage.
Doherty was married twice before her wedding to Iswarienko, but only briefly each time: from 1993 to 1994 to her colleague Ashley Hamilton (49) and from 2002 to 2003 to actor Rick Salomon (55). The actress has been battling breast cancer since 2015, which has since metastasized. In 2017, she announced that she had her disease under control. In 2020, she announced that she had been diagnosed with cancer again, this time at a more advanced and therefore incurable stage. In June 2023, she told the public that she had developed metastases in her brain, and in November 2023, she announced in an interview with People that the cancer had also attacked her bones.
