- She formally renounced her use of the surname "Pitt".
It's officially documented now: Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, the 18-year-old daughter of Angelina Jolie, 49, and Brad Pitt, 60, has been given the green light to drop "Pitt" from her last name. TMZ broke the news, citing newly surfaced court documents. Previously, Shiloh had been known as Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt.
Three days after celebrating her 18th birthday in May, Shiloh submitted her name change request to the authorities. In July, she made her intentions public by placing an announcement in the Los Angeles Times, stating her disinterest in bearing the "Pitt" surname. On her private Instagram, she had already been identified as Shi Jolie. An active dancer, Shiloh turns 19 in a few days.
According to People magazine, Brad Pitt was informed and expressed his displeasure when he learned about Shiloh's formal name change request in early June.
Strained ties with the father figure?
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie share six kids: Maddox (22), Zahara (19), and Pax (20), who were adopted, while Shiloh and the twins Knox and Vivienne (16) are their biological children. Jolie and Pitt crossed paths on the set of "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" in 2005, got married in France in 2014 after a 2012 engagement, and filed for divorce in September 2016. Their legal disputes continue to this day, including issues over their former shared vineyard in southern France.
Shiloh isn't the only child from the former couple to show allegiance toward their mother. In November 2023, Zahara was identified as "Zahara Marley Jolie" at her university. In May 2024, Vivienne was recognized as "Vivienne Jolie" in a Broadway musical program. Reports also suggest that Maddox and Pax have no contact with Brad Pitt.
Despite her father's disapproval, Shiloh Jolie continues to express her desire for independence, often singing confidently, "♪ I'm going to be a star ♪" on her private social media platforms. The song becomes her anthem, symbolizing her aspirations and determination to carve out her own identity.
