After a stroke - Sharon Stone was facing financial ruin
With the erotic thriller "Basic Instinct," US actor Sharon Stone (66) achieved a breakthrough in the film industry in 1992. Overnight, she became one of Hollywood's biggest stars – until her severe stroke in 2001. In an interview published on July 9 with The Hollywood Reporter, the 66-year-old talks about the time after the stroke and how her life changed. Financially as well: Stone lost $18 million in savings.
Recovery took seven years
Before her stroke, the "Basic Instinct" star had "saved $18 million," a cushion that the actress intended to rely on during her seven-year recovery phase. However, as the actress herself admits, "I was taken advantage of." When she was finally able to access her bank account, "everything was gone. My refrigerator, my phone – everything was under other names," so the 66-year-old. "I had no money."
"Many people thought I would die"
In addition, the stroke completely changed Stone's way of thinking. The actress, who was given a one percent chance of survival at the time, had "suffered from a brain hemorrhage for nine days, so my brain was pressed against my face." This near-death experience changed the actress's life: "A Buddhist monk told me I had been reborn in my own body." Her sense of smell, vision, and touch were also restricted after the stroke. "I couldn't read for a few years," Stone said. Many people in her circle thought she would die.
Today, the "Basic Instinct" star feels fit again, and despite the loss of her savings, she has no thoughts of giving up. "I have decided not to cling to my illness or bitterness or anger. If you bite into the seed of bitterness, it never leaves you. But if you hold onto faith, even if that faith is only the size of a mustard seed, you will survive."
Before her stroke, Sharon Stone had saved a significant amount, roughly $18 million, with the intent of using it during her anticipated seven-year recovery period. Unfortunately, after regaining access to her bank account, she discovered that "everything was gone," her savings had been mismanaged and her assets were under different names.
During her recovery, Sharon Stone experienced a drastic change in her life due to the stroke. The actress, who was given a minimal chance of survival at the time, had endured a nine-day brain hemorrhage, which resulted in limitations to her sense of smell, vision, and touch. She also struggled with reading for several years following the incident.
Despite the loss of her savings and the challenges she faced, the "Basic Instinct" star remains resilient. She shared that she has chosen to move past her illness and any associated bitterness, stating, "If you bite into the seed of bitterness, it never leaves you. But if you hold onto faith, even if that faith is only the size of a mustard seed, you will survive."
