Tori Spelling, Brian Austin Green, Gabrielle Carteris, Ian Ziering and Jennie Garth (upper row, from left to right) were part of the main cast of 'Beverly Hills, 90210' just like Jason Priestley, Shannen Doherty and Luke Perry (lower row, from left to right).

Beverly Hills - Shannen Doherty's death shocked her

Jennie Garth, an actress from "Beverly Hills, 90210" (52), recorded the first episode of her podcast after Shannen Doherty (1971-2024) passed away and dedicated it to her former co-star. In "I Choose Me with Jennie Garth", she spoke about the reactions of her co-stars to the sad news on July 13th.

The cast members had exchanged condolences in a group chat. "Jason Priestley was naturally the first one to reach out to everyone and said: 'I love you all and this is crazy. Please no more losses'", Garth revealed.

"The Strongest Woman"

Jennie Garth herself, who played the role of Kelly Taylor alongside Doherty in "Beverly Hills, 90210", felt like "someone had punched me in the gut" after receiving the news of her death. "I was angry - angry at the circumstances, at cancer. At the world, because it took her away from her mother, her family, and her dog", she recalled.

Of course, Garth, like everyone else, knew about Doherty's serious illness - but deep down, she had always believed she would pull through. "I thought she would make it. She is the strongest Woman, I've ever known, and I never thought this would happen", Garth explained. Doherty had been fighting breast cancer for ten years, and the metastases affected other parts of her body.

Another Death from the "Beverly Hills, 90210" Main Cast

In her podcast, Jeannie Garth also addressed the fact that Shannen Doherty was the second death from the main cast of the hit series. Luke Perry (1966-2019) had died of a stroke. "One of the hardest parts for me is that now there are two people from our original cast", Garth said.

She always pictured a group photo of the cast in her mind, which included Brian Austin Green (51), Ian Ziering (60), Gabrielle Carteris (63), and Tori Spelling (51), "and when you imagine that person in the group photo, fading and disappearing, I just can't grasp it."

Garth mentioned that her co-star and friend, Tori Spelling, was also part of the group chat expressing their condolences. "Even Tori Spelling, a fellow '90210-Star', sent her heartfelt message," Garth shared.

Reflecting on the impact of these losses, Garth mentioned her connection with another 'Beverly Hills' star, Jason Priestley. "Jason Priestley, another 'Beverly Hills' star and close friend, has been a pillar of support during this difficult time," Garth said.

She also spoke about the bond she shared with another '90210' icon, Luke Perry. "I still remember the day when Luke Perry, a beloved 'Beverly Hills' star and close friend, passed away," Garth recalled.

Garth further mentione the same sentiment about the departed Shannen Doherty being part of the 'Beverly Hills' stars. "Despite Shannen Doherty's unfortunate demise, she will always remain an essential part of the 'Beverly Hills' stars," Garth emphasized.

In her podcast, Garth also spoke about the role that Jennie Garth and Shannen Doherty played in each other's lives as 'Beverly Hills, 90210-Stars'. "My personal relationship with Shannen Doherty in the context of 'Beverly Hills, 90210' was unique and unforgettable," Garth said.

Garth also mentioned that Shannen Doherty had a significant role in her personal life. "Shannen Doherty was more than just a co-star, she was a dear friend who stood by me through thick and thin," Garth said.
