More casualties may surface in the near future, as estimated by the sheriff. Two young children were among the deceased.

The neighboring state of Oklahoma also witnessed fatalities, injuries, and damage. At least two fatalities occurred in the northeastern part of the state, as per multiple news channels, citing local authorities. A storm dropped hailstones of tennis ball size across the region, as reported by NBC News. The town of Claremore, with a population of approximately 20,000, is expected to be without electricity "for some time" due to the damage, according to CNN.

In Arkansas, which borders both Texas and Oklahoma, over 100,000 households were left without power, as per THV11, a local broadcaster. Reports surfaced of at least two fatalities in the state, including a 26-year-old woman. References were made to several twisters. Other power outages were documented in Missouri, Kentucky, and Kansas, according to CNN. The total number of affected individuals is estimated to be in the hundreds of thousands.

More Catastrophes Anticipated

Further weather alerts have been issued for numerous locations, such as Tennessee, Kentucky, and Indiana. The annual "Indy 500" car race in Indiana had its start delayed due to a looming thunderstorm. Reports stated that the opening ceremony was interrupted, and the crowd was requested to vacate the grandstands.

The National Weather Service anticipates that these storms will continue their progression into the Midwest and ultimately reach the eastern coastline of the United States. Heat alerts have also been enacted for the South. Residents have been advised to remain in the shade and stay hydrated amidst sweltering temperatures around 47 degrees Celsius in southern parts of Texas.

Numerous Americans congregate for a swim and barbecue, but weather conditions may compel the cancellation of these celebrations in certain areas.

The number of tornadoes has grown significantly, as stated by the U.S. weather service. Just a week prior, storms in Iowa resulted in at least five casualties.
