Severe disputes erupt in Höcke's AfD regional branch.
There's a major power struggle happening within the AfD in Thuringia due to two rival district council lists. A recent report claims that nine party members will be expelled, one of whom is even openly defending himself and attacking state leader, Björn Höcke.
Stern's research reveals that Höcke's state executive committee is behind the expulsion proceedings for these nine individuals. They've reportedly broken party rules in a severe manner, causing considerable damage to the party. This is seen as a conspiracy against grassroots resolutions, says Stern. The details of this 16-page paper are said to be available.
Deputy chairman of the Thuringian AfD, Torben Braga, acknowledged the decision by the state executive committee. He pointed out that these individuals have directly defied or bypassed party committee decisions. So, it was only natural for them to face expulsion, according to Braga.
Karlheinz Frosch, an AfD member of the state parliament, who's at risk of being expelled, remains calm about the issue. He told Stern, "We represent the true spirit of the AfD, and I'll continue being a member." Frosch further alleged that Höcke brings this infighting upon himself. "He's egotistic and can't accept criticism," Frosch said. "But it's his thoughtless utterances that hurt the party. There'd be a more electable and cooperative AfD if not for the state chairman's divisive actions. "
Elections for most of the district councils, mayors, mayors, and city/municipal councils in Thuringia are coming up on May 26. The new state parliament will be chosen in September of this year.
