- Severe accusations levied against airport personnel
Bebe Rexha, aged 34, shared a heartfelt video on Instagram last Saturday, broadcasted to her 11.9 million followers, discussing an alleged event that took place at Munich Airport. In her now-expired post, the American singer of Albanian descent claimed to have been "intimidated" and "mentally tormented" by an airport employee due to her background. Various news sources corroborate this story.
As reported by Sky News, and other sources, Rexha commented on the video, stating, "I assumed the security guard was Albanian." She continued, "I spoke to him in Albanian, asking for directions to purchase a ticket, and now he's preventing me from boarding the flight."
In her Instagram post, Rexha considered the incident a "hate crime" due to her heritage. She also alleged that the male staff member, who she estimated worked for a company providing services for Lufthansa, refused to disclose his identity. Moreover, he allegedly continued to psychologically torment her without any intercession from the female staff.
Airline's Response
Since then, Lufthansa, the German airline, has expressed their intention to investigate the situation, stating they do not tolerate any form of discriminatory behavior. A representative for the company said, "We have contacted Bebe Rexha and are actively communicating with her to clarify the situation. Lufthansa connects numerous people and countries globally. Our employees hail from various origins worldwide, and we uphold diversity and equal opportunities as our core values."
Rexha confirmed the airline's contact with her and urged a thorough investigation of the incident.
Initially, there was uncertainty regarding whether Rexha would be permitted to board the flight from Munich Airport. However, she posted an update on Sunday in her stories, saying, "Thank you to all who reached out and showed concern. Pleased to report that I safely returned home."
After sharing her distressing experience, Rexha expressed gratitude for being able to board her subsequent flight, presumably to her home. Despite the incident, Lufthansa vowed to delve into the matter, reassuring the public that they do not condone such discriminatory behaviors and value diversity among their staff.
