Military assistance is given. - Selenskyj Visits Belgium, Obtains 30 Fighter Jets for Ukraine

Belgium has made significant promises to Ukraine, including the delivery of F-16 fighter jets and other military aid. During a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Brussels, an agreement on bilateral security cooperation was signed. This agreement marks the start of F-16 deliveries this year and a total of 30 aircraft available by 2028.

Belgium plans to provide Ukraine with at least 977 million euros worth of military aid in 2021. This assistance includes modern armored vehicles, air defense equipment, maritime security equipment, and mine clearance tools to fight against Russia. The country is also committed to supporting coalitions providing artillery shells and training programs for the Ukrainian armed forces. Politically, the agreement supports Ukraine's bid to join the EU and NATO.

First country with concrete fighter jet number

Belgium is the first country to have agreed on a security agreement with a specific number of fighter jets, according to Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo. Speaking at the signing of the agreement, he said that Zelenskyy needs the right tools to protect his country's citizens. Belgium is dedicated to providing the necessary support.

The bilateral security agreements have been initiated by the G7 group of Western economic powers. During the NATO summit in Vilnius, Lithuania last year, they decided that each country should conclude such agreements with Ukraine to ensure its long-term security. Some of the countries that have started this process include the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Spain. The United States and Ukraine are still in negotiations, as details are being finalized.
