Selenskyj declares "combat control" restored around Kharkiv.

Recently, Russian troops initiated a ground assault in the border vicinity of Kharkiv. Ukrainian authorities reported that the offensive has been temporarily halted.

In part, this may be due to the fact that the Russian militant force became "stuck," as they phrase it. To the east, however, Ukraine acknowledges Partial victories by the Russian army.

As reported by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukrainian troops regained control of the eastern Kharkiv border region. During a visit to Kharkiv, he stated in a video video, "Our soldiers have managed to retake control of the border region where the Russian occupiers invaded." Prior to this, the Ukrainian military leadership had made similar statements: "The Ukrainian defense forces stopped the Russian troops in the Kharkiv area and are conducting counterattacks." A representative of the General Staff characterized the situation as "difficult," but "manageable and controlled."

Kharkiv, located near Russia, is one of the most affected regions in the ongoing conflict against Ukraine, which has been on-going for more than two years. Within the last two weeks, Russian forces launched a ground attack in the border region and seized multiple Ukrainian villages. The leading Russian units are currently situated roughly 20 kilometers from the edge of the Kharkiv city, also named Kharkiv.

"Stuck"

Despite this, according to Ukrainian army commander Oleksandr Syrskyi, the Russian troops became "completely stuck in street battles around the border town of Vovchansk and sustained heavy losses among their assault units." In a bid to capture the city, Russia is now deploying "reserves from various locations," Syrsky explained through online networks. However, they have yet to find success.

Presently, Vovchansk, a city about five kilometers from the Russian border, serves as the epicenter of Russian attempts to expand their territory. Per a statement from the Ukrainian General Staff, the city was again aerial attacked during the night. Eight guided bombs struck Vovchansk, according to the report. Ukrainian forces repelled ten Russian attempts on the city and its surrounding areas. Nevertheless, the Russian army is said to have achieved "partial successes" near Kupiansk eastward in the Kharkiv region and in the Pokrovsk sector in the Donetsk region.

11,000 Forced to Flee

Over 11,000 individuals in the area have been forced to leave their homes and apartments due to the fighting, as per the governor of the Kharkiv region, Oleh Synegubov. Ukrainian authorities declared that seven people died in Russian attacks on Kharkiv on Thursday.

The Ukrainian state railroad company reported a spate of Russian attacks on its infrastructures in the Kharkiv region on Friday. The statement noted that railway lines, vehicles, and structures were damaged. "The enemy continues to make purposeful attempts to shut down the train system in the Kharkiv region," they declared.
