Selensky claims Putin aims to impede the Ukraine peace summit scheduled in Switzerland.
Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, has accused Vladimir Putin, the Russian leader, of attempting to thwart the upcoming peace summit in Switzerland. In an informal conversation, Zelensky expressed, "Putin's really terrified of the Ukraine peace summit." He added that Putin is trying to "make the international meeting crash and keep on trying to do so."
The Ukraine peace conference is planned for June 15 and 16 in Lucerne, Switzerland. It's stated that 160 delegations have been invited by the Swiss government, yet Russia has opted out of this conference.
While in Brussels, Zelensky emphasized the need for global participation in the peace summit. He stated that if significant leaders, such as Joe Biden, the US president, did not make an appearance, it would be a "cheer for Putin." There's been no confirmation from Washington regarding Biden's attendance yet. Zelensky stated, "Anyone who doesn't come to the summit is pleased with the war."
This peace summit in Switzerland is scheduled from June 13 to 15. However, the G7 summit will occur beforehand in neighboring Italy, potentially attracting high-profile leaders such as Olaf Scholz, the German Chancellor (SPD). The G7 consists of Germany, the United States, France, Italy, Great Britain, Canada, and Japan.
