"Season 3 of 'House of the Dragon' gets green light"

Today, HBO has officially announced that its "Game of Thrones" prequel series "House of the Dragon" will be back for a third season. This news comes out before the show's sophomore season makes its debut.

In a statement on Thursday, HBO programming Francesca Orsi expressed her delight with the tremendous effort the entire team has put into the creation of an astonishing Season 2, which they believe is as captivating as it is epic, combine with its heartwarming moments. She's eager to continue the tale of House Targaryen as the team shines once more for Season 3.

"House of the Dragon" draws inspiration from George R.R. Martin's 2018 novel "Fire & Blood" which takes place 200 years before the events in "Game of Thrones" and focuses on House Targaryen's civil war.

The show first aired in 2022 and drew in a massive audience, particularly in its maiden season. To provide some context, the last episode of Season 1 had done exceptionally well and gathered a record-breaking 9.3 million viewers, making it the biggest finale ever for an HBO show since the conclusion of "Thrones" in May 2019.

The show's exceptional cast includes Emma D'Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Matt Smith, Eve Best, Steven Toussaint, Rhys Ifans, Fabien Frankel, and Tom Glynn-Carney, to name a few.
